Lend Lease

Our regeneration plans aim to reconnect Walworth Road to the transport hub at Elephant & Castle, providing greater footfall for local shops and increasing the evening economy by providing restaurants and cafes, situated around the brand new park.

We will provide new commercial space and enough retail space for about 50 new shops, 10% of which will be let at a discounted rate for independent retailers. We will also deliver a brand new central shopping street.

In addition, our plans will generate:

  • Over £42million per year of additional household spend
  • Over £600,000 per year in local spend by employees during construction
  • Over £1m per year in additional local spend by workers employed in the completed developments

 

Elephant Effect

We want to make sure that we create the right mix of shops and we’ll take care to get the right tenants to ensure that we create a sustainable retail offer for the local community.

The additional spend created by employees on our construction sites will benefit existing retailers in the area.

An incubator for entrepreneurs

One of the many early benefits our regeneration is bringing to the area is Artworks Elephant, a temporary facility of 50 recycled shipping containers on the site of the former Heygate Estate that will provide low cost business and retail space for creative and start-up companies in Southwark.
